It's #climateweek, and fashion accounts for up to 10% of global carbon emissions. It's also involved in at least 12 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals by the UN. The
NYU Social Entrepreneurship Program, United Nations Global Compact and the Council of Fashion Designers of America convened an intimate gathering of brands and advocates today to discuss the challenges facing brands who want to go sustainable, and what resources we need to surmount those challenges, maybe:
A gathering of accurate data on fashion's environmental impact, as well as research to fill in gaps; a resource for fashion to find responsible supply chain partners; a hub for citizens to find out about the work being done on the issue; and off-the-record conversations so fashion brands can work through complex challenges facing them. I advocating for funding for journalists! Sustainable fashion is now a very scientific thing, and it can take me months to do one of my best-in-class articles, but the funding for these articles is hard to find. Is there a foundation out there that can fund journalists on this topic?
So, what challenges are facing you in the sustainable fashion space?
