I used to suffer from Seasonal Effective Disorder. February was especially difficult for as long as I can remember. It never helped that my husband always seemed to be deployed over the winter months. We'd always rationalize that at least he'd be home over the summer for all the fun stuff! But then I'd be left alone to count the days till the snow melted.
Since moving out East and being far closer to nature then I have ever been in my life I started to pick up on the life within each season. Winter was no longer a season of dark, cold, salt and slush. It's became a season of family time when the winds pick up followed by blue skies filled with eagles, hawks and osprey. I realized the snow and cold aren't what brought me down, it was the thought that there wasn't any life in winter that did.
The past two weeks have brought 3 (soon to be 4) storms through my area. But like clockwork, two days ago the robins showed up in the trees, singing their little hearts out. It's like they just knew the balance between light and dark had been reached with the spring equinox and they didn't need a calendar to tell them.
With a storm headed our way tonight everyone's miserable about how long winter is taking to leave. But I'm going to take some happy cues from the birds. Spring is definitely on its way. 😊
