Despite only seeing seven carries a game last season, Christian McCaffrey still managed to finish as a top-10 RB in PPR leagues. He had a huge role in the passing game with Greg Olsen missing most of the season and Kelvin Benjamin getting dealt to Buffalo mid season, catching 80 passes on 113 targets (most of any RB in the league last season) for 651 yards and 5 touchdowns through the air. .
While it is safe to expect McCaffery will see some regression in the passing game with the return of Greg Olsen and addition of DJ Moore, I think the potential increase in carries McCaffery will see can make up for that production. I have seen a lot of concern regarding McCaffery with the signing of CJ Anderson, and while I do think Anderson will be more productive than Jonathon Stewart was last season, I think McCaffery will still see an increase in carries and will remain the clear focal point of this backfield. Ron Rivera recently came out and said he wouldn't be surprised if McCaffery reached the 200 carry mark this season, which would realistically give him about 12-14 carries a game, pretty much doubling the workload he saw last season in the run game. I'm not necessarily going to go out and say McCaffery will see 113 targets again this season either, but with the loss of Andrew Norwell to the Panthers offensive line, we could see just as many dump off/screen passes to McCaffery this season if the offensive line struggles .
Ever since the Panthers signed Anderson, McCaffery has dropped from a mid 2nd round pick in PPR leagues to an early 3rd round pick which is tremendous value for me. I'm still willing to take McCaffery in the late 2nd round of PPR leagues, and early to mid 3rd in standard leagues. Although his touchdown upside is certainly limited, McCaffery should still remain the clear focal point of this Panthers backfield .
🔥For those of you in dynasty leagues, I'm definitely buying into McCaffery. We have seen RB's like him who aren't necessarily true workhorses have longer lasting careers just because they don't take as much of a beating on a weekly basis. Barring injuries, McCaffrey should be a stud for a while🔥
