Sunday of Orthodoxy
For more than one hundred years the Church of Christ was troubled by the persecution of the Iconoclasts of evil belief, beginning in the reign of Leo the Isaurian (717-741) and ending in the reign of Theophilus (829-842). After Theophilus's death, his widow the Empress Theodora (celebrated Feb. 11), together with the Patriarch Methodius (June 14), established Orthodoxy anew. This ever-memorable Queen venerated the icon of the Mother of God in the presence of the Patriarch Methodius and the other confessors and righteous men, and openly cried out these holy words: "If anyone does not offer relative worship to the holy icons, not adoring them as though they were gods, but venerating them out of love as images of the archetype, let him be anathema." Then with common prayer and fasting during the whole first week of the Forty-day Fast, she asked God's forgiveness for her husband. After this, on the first Sunday of the Fast, she and her son, Michael the Emperor, made a procession with all the clergy and people and restored the holy icons, and again adorned the Church of Christ with them. This is the holy deed that all we the Orthodox commemorate today, and we call this radiant and venerable day the Sunday of Orthodoxy, that is, the triumph of true doctrine over heresy. #sundayoforthodoxy#triumphoforthodoxy#firstsundayoflent#journeytopascha#thisisthefaithofourfathers#holyorthodoxy#christ#christians#icons#orthodoxicons#glorytogod#liveorthodoxy#annunciationbuffalo#buffalonewyork

You inspire me. I was born into this faith. Sure, I had to learn the hard way how to own it, but I've always had it there. It has always been a haven for me. A part of who I am.
But you? You had to fight. To search for truth. To find your identity in Christ in a way many of us might not have been strong enough to endure. Sure, for some of you it was finding the home you've always felt was out there.
But for others? This has been the most grueling thing you've ever had to do. And you chose it anyway. That strength! That bravery! I can't even fathom how clearly you had to hear God's call to be where you are today.
And for that I can say nothing but thank you. Because it reminds me when I get complacent in my faith that there are people who lose their families over choosing what I was born into. There are people who fight with every breath to learn and live what I was raised on.
And that reminds me just how important faith is. Just how vital it is. I cannot just sing "I love Jesus" and be saved. I have to live every moment, every day, every breath for this. So thank you. For reminding me who I am and why I am so lucky. I love you. Welcome home.
