thoughts on #ilsleyskirt construction:
First pockets without hand-holding, first hip pockets and french-seamed at that, and sewing them was actually super straightforward! I graded the 1.5 cm allowance @ pocket opening to reduce bulk.
I was super worried about the curved hem, but I think I have it 90% down. Took @marillawalker 's advice & the trick is to taper your curved hem turning so it blends out towards the side seam notch. I tapered quite near the side seam - next time I'll taper right where the curve starts so the hem sits a little better. To eliminate bunchy hem folds, I notched 'v's on the first fold.
I expected the hem + pockets to give me the most trouble, but it was the waistband that took super long b/c I suck at topstitching both waistband sides together, threading elastic through and keeping waistband side seam allowances flat 🙄
Still really enjoyed sewing this skirt! I think it's b/c everything is french-seamed 😋
#unselfishsewing for once! I really enjoyed sewing this #ilsleyskirt and now Mum has a (free!) skirt she can wear on Fridays. There's more polyester than I would've liked in this Vietnamese floral - but hey, still pretty ☺️
@marillawalker #ilsleyskirt No2. A wee bit obsessed. Not quite as gorgeous as No1 but still pleased and I've already worn it. It's a very lightweight suiting wool, managed to make it out of a .75 meter remnant. Not enough for the pocket lining, hence lovely fancy pocket. Advice please, sewers of instagram, left pocket is puckered, that's my second attempt, it was exactly the same as the first. Right pocket is fine. I've no idea why? What am I doing wrong?
I bought #vogue1501 in a half price sale. Even better I used the money from selling shoes to @tamsinwp_pmc. I have no fabric yet unless I make it in brown jersey. But I need to finish my WIPs before starting a new pattern. So today I finally hemmed my stripey skirt and stitched up a shortsleeved esme top. #esmetop#everyday#isew#sewingplans#ilsleyskirt
My crafty plans for 2017:
1. At least two bras like the free sports bra pattern by The Sewing Rabbit. / 2. A second #inariteedress by namedclothing suitable for the beach / 3. Finally the #talvikkisweater by namedclothing. I already have the fabric and pattern here. So this will be my no 1 for 2017
4. A highwaisted leggings. I couldn't find a pattern so I'll it try on my own. / 5. The only knitting plans so far: the #morskosegenser sweater by guttenogstrikkemor.no, with a lovely cotton yarn. / 6. #toastersweater2 by sewhouse7. I already deeply love my #1.
7. A skirt with a joggingspants-look. Similar to this one from burdastyle OR the free #ilsleyskirt by Marilla Walker. / 8. A small bag for my bike, the perfect accessoire for the summer time. I'll improvise a pattern. / 9. The #desmondbackpack by TaylorTailor. I already bought the perfect fabric for it. 😻
It must be holidays because I am making an effort to finish the Unfinished. First up #ilsleyskirt by @marillawalker
Had no sewing time for months. And have been very grumpy because of it. #isew#handmadewardrobe
#ilsleyskirt in an afternoon! Thanks @marillawalker for the delightful pattern 😄 love the curved hem--finished with bias tape to highlight it. (I'll add a bit more width to the skirt next time to make it more 🚴🏻friendly -- but there will definitely be a next time!)
#miymarch16 Day 16: Pockets. Another @marillawalker #ilsleyskirt recently completed in diamond denim with reverse of fabric used on the pocket facing. This is my favourite type of pocket to sew. @thatwendyward @dressmakerssocial
