“It’s been a long week...” me in the middle of Tuesday ✨ thank goodness my skin, mind, & hair are being taken care of by the glorious @beautybarchocolate !! & my ears are being taken care of by these wonderful records that I recently snagged✨ Beauty Bar Chocolate is my fave to start my morning off! It contains Rhodiola that relieves stress, fatigue, & balances hormones; Pearl collagens that help for healthy hair skin & nails; & Raw Cacao which creates feelings of bliss & calming energy! Three squares of B.B.C. + my morning coffee + my favorite records = that Friday feelin’ every weekday✨ now for the music: The Weeknd’s “House of Balloons” (Technically Pt. 1 of the Trilogy) is one of my favorites b/c it has the song that introduced me to him, “Wicked Games.” I’ve never heard anything more sultry in my entire life & I needed to hear all of it. I love D.D on pt 2, his rendition of Dirty Diana 😍😍😍💕 Nirvana’s “Bleach” just recently had a bday & it remains one of my fave of theirs with the song “About A Girl.” Mariah Carey’s debut is phenomenal & includes some of her best work vocally! Ever since then, she’s remained fresh & gorgeous with both her voice & her persona. I love Mimi & always will! & Maroon 5’s debut was and will always be one of my favorites. It’s the perfect early morning, trying to get the day started Album. It’s my childhood & one I remember loving along with my parents loving it too. Even though I loved most of the music my parents listened to, this was one of the first concerts I attended with them and we both enjoying the music performance! 🤣 what are your favorite morning routines + daybreak music you like to enjoy before you start your day?! Also, lmk if you’d listen to my playlists on Apple Music & Spotify if I made em public?? 💕
When I stumbled across an album claiming to be “a voyage across French cosmic & electronic avantgarde (70s-80s)” you know I was gonna buy it. And I am glad I did because “Cosmic Machine: The Sequel” is not only some trippy shit, it’s also a great snapshot of a vibrant music scene I know little to nothing about. Plus, you can dance to it. Well, most of it. Some of it gets pretty out there. It’s obvious to say that the roots of Daft Punk and Justice are all over this compilation but it’s worth mentioning as it illustrates just how indebted those acts in particular (and all music generally) are to the work that came before. And let me tell you, this album is appropriately titled is a funked-out space disco of the highest order. I am now on the hunt for the original “Cosmic Voyage” because there is no way that thing doesn’t have some outright bangers on it. If you know anything about early French disco/electronica, please give me some recaps below 👇👇👇
Obviously, this album was going to get paired with some French wine. I wanted something refreshing with body, something that could stand up to the meal that is this album while keeping you light on your feet. After much deliberation, I decided to go with a Sémillon, namely a Château Cantelaudette Blanc, White Bordeaux Graves de Vayres. This has a lush, creamy mouth feel and tons of body and was packed with notes of tropical fruit, such as mango and papaya. The whole thing was backed up by a fine minerality. And the acidity was cutting and kept you coming back for more. It didn’t take long to drink this one.
Wayne Shorter ‘The All Seeing Eye’-A bold, uncompromising step into larger, more explorative and adventurous spaces. While it doesn’t go off the rails into avant territory, it does flirt with freer approaches; taking the influence of Miles’s quintet albums of the era and expanding the sonic pallet by leveraging the possibilities of a septet. The results are polarizing among Wayne Shorter fans: some think it’s the pinnacle of this Blue Note period, others find it too abstract. I find it riveting. YMMV.
